The Trading Point model is an ideal platform to roll-out a rural primary healthcare model.
To date Arvore da Vida has constructed a rural clinic in the area of Eduardo, approximately 20 kilometres west of Homoine in the Inhambane province. The clinic will be used as a pilot clinic and a base from where further primary healthcare services can be offered. An opportunity that exists is that a doctor or nurse from this clinic visits each Trading Point once per week. In this way a big number of people can be reached in many different rural locations.
Each Trading Point can serve as a micro clinic and a small consulting room can easily be constructed at each point. The initial focus of the clinics will be to dispense basic healthcare products such as malaria tablets, bandages and other basic products. In addition to these general services and products, more specialized services can be offered. For example an eye-doctor can visit each Trading Point once per month to provide eye care. The trading points can also be used to provide HIV/Aids education and awareness as well as family planning and birth control assistance.
